titleOfInvention Targeting and growth of microorganisms in solidifying density gradients
abstract A microbial growth method that, by virtue of its properties, targets microbes to a specific location in a density gradient that can be brought into both solid and liquid form. The method combines in a novel way two known methods used for isolation and cultivation of microbes. According to the invention, the cells are first enriched by gradient centrifugation in solution space to a narrow band, after which the microbes are amplified in solidified growth medium in a state which favors the growth of the desired cells and / or inhibits the growth of other cells. The process is most easily carried out in a centrifuge tube containing two nested cylinders.
