abstract | A dried film reinforced with coalescable water insoluble polymer particles is claimed. The particles are uncoalesced, and the film comprises a water insoluble component (I) and a water soluble component (II). (I) comprises coalescable polymer particles having a Tg less than 55 deg.C. and a majority of which have a particle size of less than 1 micron. (II) comprises a water soluble polymer capable of inhibiting coalescence of the polymer particles, or a water soluble polymer and a component capable of inhibiting coalescence of the polymer particles. (I) comprises greater than 3 wt.% of the film solids and (II) comprises greater than 25 wt.% of the solids. Also claimed are: (i) a stable aq. dispersion capable of forming, at 70 deg.F., the above film; (ii) a dried powder capable of being dispersed in water to form (i); (iii) prepn. of the above dried film; (iv) the prepn. of (ii); (v) the prepn. of (i); (vi) a coating colour compsn., and a method for applying this compsn.; and (vii) a paper coated with the colour coating compsn., which can then be printed. |
