abstract The nutritional value, to animals, of a crop is improved by treating with a cellulolytic enzyme compsn. (A) having no enzymatic activities deleterious to the crop. Pref. (A) has been fractionated on an anion exchange resin (AER) to remove the detrimental enzyme components. (A) are produced from commercial cellulase enzyme mixts., e.g. from Trichoderma longibrachiatum, by fractionation on Q-Sepharose AER at pH 8 and conductivity equiv. to 20 mM Tris buffer. The material fraction A) not retained under these conditions was further fractionated on CM-Sepharose; it had esterase; carboxymethylcellulose (CMC); xylosidase; arabinosidase; glucosidase (cellobiose); and xylanase activities.
