abstract | PROCEDURE TO PREPARE A SURFACTANT-STARCH PRODUCT DISPERSABLE IN HOT WATER. GRANULATED STARCH IS COMBINED WITH AT LEAST 0.25% BY WEIGHT OF STARCH OF A SURFACTANT CONTAINING A PORTION OF FATTY ACID AND ENOUGH WATER TO PROVIDE A MOISTURE CONTENT OF 10 TO 40%, FORMING A SEMI-MOISTURE GRANULAR STARCH AND A SEMI-MOISTURE GRANULAR STARCH. SUCH MIXTURE IS HEAT TREATED AT 50-120 C TO PRODUCE A DAMP HEAT TREATED STARCH SURFACTANT PRODUCT. THE STARCH-SURFACTANT COMPLEX IS MIXED WITH 0.5 TO 10% BY WEIGHT OF ONE OR MORE GUMS SELECTED FROM THE GROUP THAT CONSISTS OF XANTHANE, GUAR, ALGARROBO FLOUR, ALGINATE, CARRAGENINE, GHATTI OR KARAYA.
