IT CONSISTS IN THE HEATING OF AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF THIONIC ACID AT A TEMPERATURE BETWEEN 80 C AND 160 C FOR A SUFFICIENT TIME TO PRODUCE A SOLUTION OF ETHIONIC ACID AND SULFURIC ACID; FOLLOWED BY THE NEUTRALIZATION OF THE SOLUTION WITH A MIXTURE OF CALCIUM HYDROXIDE AND ALKALINE HYDROXIDE, IN SUITABLE PROPORTIONS TO TRANSFORM ALL SULFURIC ACID INTO CALCIUM SULFATE AND ISETHIONIC ACID INTO ALKALINE METAL ISETHIONATE; AND SEPARATION OF THIS FROM THE SOLUTION. THESE COMPOUNDS HAVE APPLICATIONS FOR THE PREPARATION OF SURFACE-ACTIVE FATTY ACID ISETHIONATES. |
