abstract PROCEDURE FOR THE TRANSFORMATION OF A CARBOXYL ACID GROUP, LOCATED IN THE RING OF AN ARYLIC OR NITROGENATED HETROAROMATIC COMPOUND, INTO A TRICHLOROMETHYL GROUP. IT CONSISTS OF THE REACTION OF AN ARYLIC OR NITROGENATED HETROAROMATIC COMPOUND WITH A PHENYLPHOSPHONIUM DICHLORIDE AND FORPHORUM PENTACHLORIDE, BY HEATING AT REFLUX AT TEMPERATURES BETWEEN 100 AND 250 DEGREES CENTIGRADE AND AT ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE. THE REACTION MIXTURE IS COOLED, THE PHOSPHORUS OXYCHLORIDE FORMED BY DISTILLATION AT REDUCED PRESSURE IS SEPARATED, AND THE PRODUCT OBTAINED IS SEPARATED AND PURIFIED ACCORDING TO CONVENTIONAL METHODS.
