abstract PROCEDURE FOR THE PREPARATION OF SUBSTITUTED URACILS, OF FORMULA (I), WHERE R1 AND R2 ARE AN ALCOHYL RADICAL OR FORM A HOMOCYCLE OR A THEOPHENIC CYCLE; AND R3 IS A GROUP OF FORMULA (II) OR OTHERS BEING AND ALCOHYL OR PHENYL. IT IS BASED ON THE REACTION OF A COMPOUND OF FORMULA (III) WITH A COMPOUND OF FORMULA (IV) IN WHICH X IS HALOGEN. THE REACTION IS EFFECTED IN THE PRESENCE OF A STRONG BASE SUCH AS SODIUM HYDRIDE OR AMIDIDE, AND EVENTUALLY, IN A SOLVENT SUCH AS DIMETHYLFORMAMIDE OR TETRAHYDROFURAN IN HEXAMETHYLPHOSPHOTRIAMIDE. THE MIXTURE IS CONCENTRATED TO DRY, BY DISTILLATION AT REDUCED PRESSURE. AN ETHER IS ADDED TO THE RESIDUE. THE INSOLUBLE FORMED IS FILTERED, CONCENTRATED AND CHROMATOGRAPHED ON SILICA.
