WHEN THE R2 RADICAL REPRESENTS AN ALKYL AMINO GROUP, THE AMINO GROUP OF THE AMINO ACID HAS TO BE ADEQUATELY PROTECTED, THEREFORE IT IS MADE TO REACT FIRST WITH PHTHALIC ANHYDRIDE TO FORM THE PROTECTED AMINO-ACID OF FORMULA (II), AND LATER WITH THIOCARBOHYDRAZIDE; THE PROTECTIVE GROUP IS SEPARATED FROM THE COMPOUND OBTAINED BY REACTION WITH HYDRAZINE.
