IT INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING OPERATIONS: 1) PREPARATION OF THE MATERIAL BY MEANS OF MAGNETIC SEPARATION FOR THE ELIMINATION OF THE IRON, FOLLOWED BY DRYING AND CALCINATION; 2) SELECTIVE CHLORINATION OF REMAINING IRON, WHICH IS FACILITATED IN THE PRESENCE OF OXYGEN TO INHIBIT THE CHLORINATION OF ALUMINUM, SILICON AND TITANIUM; 3) REDUCING CHLORINATION IN THE ABSENCE OF OXYGEN AND THE PRESENCE OF CARBON OR ANOTHER REDUCER, AT TEMPERATURES BETWEEN 500 GC AND 1,200 GC, REDUCING THE ACTION ON SILICON AND CATALYZING IT ON ALUMINUM, BY PRESENCE OF BORON CHLORIDE; 4) SELECTIVE ABSORPTION OF ALUMINUM CHLORIDE, REGARDING THOSE OF TITANIUM AND IRON BY THE ACTION OF A MIXTURE OF MELTED SALTS; 5) FINAL SEPARATION OF THE ALUMINUM AND IRON CHLORIDES BY RECTIFICATION, WITH PRIOR REDUCTION OF THE FERRIC TO FERROUS CHLORIDE.
