Process to improve the adhesion between a thermoplastic resin and an inorganic oxide substrate, characterized in that it comprises providing at the interface between said thermoplastic resin and said inorganic oxide substrate: (A) a copolymer that has copolymerized therein (i) of 75 to 95 mole% of at least one ethylenically unsaturated organic monomer and (ii) from 5 to 25 mole% of an unsaturated organosilane monomer of formula RSiXnR '' (3-n) where R is a monovalent organic radical containing a group vinyl, R '' is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical containing up to 10 carbon atoms, n is an integer from 1 to 3 and X is a hydrolyzable group chosen from alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkoxyalkoxy with up to about 6 carbon atoms carbon, acyloxy of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, phenoxy, and oxime; and (B) from 0.1 to 100 mole%, based on the number of moles of polymerized unsaturated organosilane present in said copolymer, of a hydrolytically reactive monomeric organosilane of formula R "(4-x) SiXx where X is a group hydrolyzable as defined above, R "is a monovalent organic radical of 1 to 12 carbon atoms and x is an integer with a value of 1 to 4. |
