titleOfInvention A NON-CONTAMINATING OXYHYDROCHLORATION PROCEDURE.
abstract A non-polluting oxyhydrochlorination process, in which hydrochloric gas, air or oxygen, ethylene and/or a chlorinated derivative of stylene are reacted, to obtain an effluent containing chlorinated derivatives of ethylene, and characterized by a) separating from effluent the chlorinated derivatives of ethylene formed in the course of the oxyhydrochlorination reaction, the residual effluent containing essentially oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, carbon dioxide, unreacted ethylene, dichloro-1,2-ethane, and at least one chlorinated hydrocarbon from the group consisting of chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, ethyl chloride, dichloro-1,1-ethane, trichloro-1,1,1- and 1,1,2-ethane, tetrachloro-1,1,2,2 - and 1,1,1,2-ethane, vinyl chloride, dichloro 1,1- and 1,2-ethylene, trichlorethylene, perchlorcetylene and chloral; b) optionally adding a diluent gas to the residual effluent; c) preheat the effluent to a temperature between 250 and 400ÂșC; d) sending this effluent to an adabatic reaction zone containing an oxidation catalyst consisting of platinum and/or iridium deposited(s) on an alumina support with an eta crystallographic structure, which leads after oxidation to a gas mixture essentially comprising carbon dioxide, hydrochloric acid, water vapour, oxygen and nitrogen; e) totally or partially using the calories released in the oxidation to preheat, according to step c), and with the help of a heat exchanger, the effluent from step a); f) washing away the hydrochloric acid formed during the oxidation stage before discharging the effluent into the atmosphere or using it as a source of inert gas.
