abstract The alkanolamine derivative obtained by the process of the present invention possesses an asymmetric carbon atom, namely the carbon atom of the group -CHOH- in the alkanolamine side chain and therefore can exist in racemic and optically active forms. It will be understood that the present invention covers the racemic form of the alkanolamine derivative and any optically active form that possesses an adrenergic-stimulating activity, the fact that a racemic compound can be resolved into optically active forms is known, and how the activity - stimulating adrenergic of these forms. It will be further understood that stimulating -adrenergic activity generally predominates in the optically active form having the absolute "S" configuration of said -CHOH group.
