titleOfInvention METHOD FOR ESTABLISHING A CONCENTRATION THAT INHIBITS THE CORRECTION OF IRON AND STEEL BY CARBON DIOXIDE
abstract Method for establishing a concentration that inhibits the corrosion of iron and steel by carbon dioxide in gas conditioning solutions, characterized by the operations of preparing a quaternary pyridinium salt by reacting a mixture of a pyridine compound with alcohol or halide excess benzyl halide, under heating at 90 ° C for two hours, cooling the reaction mixture and recovering the quaternary salt as a viscous liquid or solid precipitate; formulate an inhibitory concentration by combining one part by weight of the obtained quaternary pyridine salt with 0.0001-10 parts of a thio-compound which is a water soluble thiocyanate or an organic thioamide, and a small but effective amount of cobalt, being present said cobalt as a water soluble divalent cobalt compound; and adding the inhibitory concentration to the resulting gas treatment solution is substantially inhibited against the induction of corrosion in the gas treatment unit.
