abstract Procedure for obtaining xylan and fibrous materials from vegetable raw materials containing xylan, which are disintegrated by means of a steam pressure treatment and defibration, characterized in that the steam pressure treatment is carried out with saturated steam at temperatures of 160 to 230ÂșC for 2 minutes to 4 hours, the vegetable raw materials thus disintegrated are leached with an aqueous solution, xylans and xylan fractions and xylan fractions are separated from the solution in purified form mainly of monosaccharides and, where appropriate, of other impurities , because, if desired, the xylans and xylan fractions, optionally in the form of the solution obtained, are hydrolyzed without special isolation to xylose and, if desired, xylose, optionally in the form of the solution obtained, it is reduced without special isolation in a known manner to xylite.
