titleOfInvention A PROCEDURE TO PREPARE A STABLE ANTIBIOTIC COMPOSITION.
abstract A process for preparing a stable antibiotic composition containing a high concentration of antibiotic in solution, characterized by reacting a tetracycline antibiotic with a suspension comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable alkaline earth metal compound and, if desired, polyvinylpyrrolidone, in 2-pyrrolidone aqueous, to form an alkaline earth metal / tetracycline chelate, and adjust the pH, if necessary, to achieve solution, said antibiotic being selected from among oxytetracycline, doxycycline, tetracycline, chlortetracycline and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof , with the proviso that when said antibiotic is chlortetracycline, said alkaline earth metal compound is a calcium compound soluble in said solution, and when said antibiotic is different from chlortetracycline, said alkaline earth metal compound is a magnesium compound soluble in said solution.
