abstract The invention provides novel compounds of formula IN WHICH R signifies a substituted or unsubstituted mono- or bi-nuclear aryl radical, or a radical of formula II, R1 and R3, which may be the same or different, each signifies a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl radical of 1 to 6 carbon atoms or mono- or bi-nuclear aryl radical, R2 and R4, which may be the same or different, each signifies a hydrogen or chlorine atom, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl radical of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or a group -CN, -CONH2, -COOR5, in which R5 signifies a hydrogen atom or an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl radical of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or -NH-CO-R6, in which R6 signifies a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl radical of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, N SIGNIFIES 1 TO 6, AND THE RING(S) B may be unsubstituted or substituted, PROVIDED THAT N SIGNIFIES OTHER THAN 1, WHEN R signifies a radical of formula II stated above useful as optical brighteners.
