abstract | Acrolein is produced by heating 3,3-diacetoxypropene - (1) 1,3 - diacetoxypropene - (1) or 1,1,3 - triacetoxypropane with water in the presence of an acid catalyst so as to effect hydrolysis with separation of acetic acid, and distilling off resulting acrolein. The catalyst may be an acid ion exchanger, a dilute mineral acid or the acetic acid obtained on effecting the hydrolysis. |
