titleOfInvention A METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF SOLID ARTICLES, SUCH AS FOR EXAMPLE STATUES OR FURNITURE.
abstract A vinyl ester resin composition in the form of a water-in-oil emulsion that is capable of being cured to a thermoset product comprises (A) from 30 to 70 weight per cent water and (B) from 70 to 30 weight per cent of an oil phase comprising (a) from 40 to 70 weight per cent of a resinous material selected from (1) a vinyl ester resin containing linkage groups and terminal ethylenic unsaturation, and (2) the product of the reaction of such a vinyl ester resin with from 0À1 to 0À6 mole of a dicarboxylic acid anhydride per equivalent of hydroxyl group in the vinyl ester resin, and (b) from 60 to 30 weight per cent of a substantially water-insoluble monomer that is copolymerizable with the resinous material. The vinyl ester resin is prepared by reacting about equivalent proportions of (1) a polyglycidyl)ether derived from an epihalohydrin and a polyhydric phenol or polyhydric alcohol with (2) acrylic acid, methacrylic acid and/or a hydroxyalkyl acrylate and/or methacrylate half ester of maleic acid wherein the alkyl group contains from 2 to 6 carbon atoms. In the examples emulsions containing water, vinyl ester resins derived from bisphenol A type polyepoxide, methacrylic acid, maleic anhydride, maleate half-ester of #- hydroxy ethyl acrylate, polyglycol type polyepoxide, maleate half-ester of hydroxy propyl acrylate and phthalic anhydride, styrene, monochlorostyrene, sand and chopped glass fibre were prepared and cured using benzoyl peroxide and dimethyl aniline.
