abstract Novel compounds of Formula I wherein R1 is H, alkyl or aryl and X is a substituted or unsubstituted aryl radical and their acid addition salts are prepared by the reduction of the corresponding pyridine derivative or of an acid addition salt or quaternary N-benzyl salt of said pyridine derivative. Intermediates isolated are the starting materials for the above reaction which are prepared by the reaction of a compound X-O-Na with a corresponding halo-methyl-pyridine derivative (which is prepared by reaction of the corresponding hydroxymethyl derivative with thionyl chloride). The said hydroxymethyl derivatives are prepared by reduction of the appropriate keto derivatives.
