titleOfInvention | HYDROCARBON OXIDATION PROCEDURE. |
abstract | In the partial oxidation of hydrocarbons to alcohols and ketones by treatment with molecular oxygen or a gas containing it in the liquid phase in an oxidizer of at least 1000 gallons volume in the presence of a boron compound capable of forming an ester with the alcohol, the ester being subsequently hydrolysed, improved yields are obtained by so agitating the reaction mixture that at least 6 h.p. is applied per 1000 gallons of oxidizer volume. An example is given of the oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone at 165 C. and 125 lb. per sq. in. pressure in three oxidizers, each of 10,000 gallons volume in the presence of metaboric acid. Reference is made also to the oxidation of cyclododecane. The gallons referred to are U.S. gallons. |
