abstract Pharmaceutical compositions contain antiinflammatory steroids of the formula (wherein (a) X is #-OH, R1 is F, Cl, Br or I R2 is C 2-4 alkanoyl, R3 is CH 3 or =CH 2 , Y is F or, when R2 is C 2-3 alkanoyl, can also be Cl, and #1 is optional or (b) X is 0, R1 and R2 are as in (a), R3 is CH 3 or, when R1 is F, can also be =CH 2 , Y is F and #1 is optional or (c) R1 is Y are F, R3 is #-CH 3 , X is #-OH, R2 is valeryl and #1 is present) and suitable carriers or excipients. They may be in forms for topical or internal use and may contain anti-microbial agents, particularly antibiotics such as neomycin, and preservatives or bacteriostatic agents.
