abstract In a process for making polyesters from one or more aromatic and/or aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, and aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic and/or aromatic dihydric alcohols, there is used a catalyst comprising mixtures and/or an alloy or alloys of (a) Sb, (b) Sn and/or Pb, (c) Cd and/ or Mn. The catalyst preferably contains 10- 80% by weight, of (a), 10-80% by weight of (b) and 5-70% by weight of (c). In the examples, polyesters are made from (i) dimethyl telephthalate and ethyleneglycol, with or without dimethyl isophthalate or the bis-glycol ether of bis-phenol A and pentaerythritol or (ii) dimethyl terephthalate and 1,4 - bis - (hydroxymethyl)- cyclohexane.
