titleOfInvention PROCEDURE FOR THE PREPARATION OF AN UNSATURATED POLYESTER RESIN.
abstract An unsaturated polyester resin which is a solid at 25 C. and which comprises an [alpha],#- ethylenically unsaturated monomer and an unsaturated polyester, wherein the [alpha],#-ethylenically unsaturated monomer constitutes from 10 to 60% by weight of the [alpha],#-ethylenically unsaturated monomer and unsaturated polyester and the unsaturated polyester constitutes from 40 to 90% by weight of the [alpha],#-ethylenically unsaturated monomer and unsaturated polyester, and wherein the unsaturated polyester is formed by esterifying one or more dihydric alcohols, at least 15 mole per cent of which consists of one or more dihydroxy ethers selected from 1,3-di(2-hydroxyalkoxy) benzenes and/or 1,4 - di(2 - hydroxyalkoxy) benzenes wherein the alkoxy groups have from 2 to 4 carbon atoms, with one or more dicarboxylic acids and/or anhydrides at least 25 mole per cent of which consists of one or more ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids and/or anhydrides. In the examples were used: 1,2-, 1,3- and 1,4-di (2-hydroxyethoxy) benzene, neopentyl glycol, maleic anhydride, styrene, benzoyl peroxide, 2,21-di (4-hydroxy ethoxy phenyl) propane, propylene glycol, tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, hexahydrophthalic anhydride, isophthalic acid, terephthalic acid, phthalic anhydride, itaconic anhydride, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, 1,3-butylene glycol, 1,4-cyclohexane dimethanol glycol, methyl methacrylate, diallyl phthalate and tetrabromophthalic anhydride.
