abstract | An inactive conjugated diene polymer is reacted in solution with a lithium alkyl compound and a polyhalohydrocarbon or a polyvinyl substituted aromatic hydrocarbon. In the examples, a polystyrene-polybutadienepolystyrene block copolymer is reacted with sec.-butyl lithium and dibromethane and polybutadiene is reacted with secondary butyl lithium and dibromoethane or divinyl benzene. The process reduces cold flow by increasing the higher molecular weight fraction. |
