abstract A target, for neutron production by deuterium or tritium bombardment, is formed of a mixture of metal hydrides. A mixture of required metal powders is heated in an atmosphere of deuterium or tritium to form the hydrides. The proportions of the metals are selected so as to cause a zero volume charge during hydriding in the mixture and thus to preserve a high mechanical stability.
