titleOfInvention METHOD OF PREPARING A PHOTOSENSITIVE LACQUER.
abstract A photo-sensitive material comprises an aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol, a light-sensitive chromate or bichromate of a non-volatile base and a solvent (as defined) the pH of the solution being between 6À7 and 8À2. Specified chromium compounds are lithium, sodium and magnesium chromate and tetramethyl- and tetraethylammonium chromate, Specified solvents are dimethyl sulphoxide, gamma-butynolactone, N- methyl-alpha-pyrrolidone, ethylene carbonate, sulpholene, dimethylacetamide, dimethylformamide, tetramethylurea and hexamethylphosphoramide. The pH of the solution may be adjusted by adding a non-volatile acid or alkali. In the examples, the specified ingredients may be dissolved in water, coated on a support and imagewise exposed and developed to produce a printing plate, a printed circuit or a cathode-ray tube screen. Alternatively chromic acid may be added to the solution and converted to the appropriate alkali-metal or tetra alkylammonium chromate by addition of the appropriate hydroxide the pH also being determined by this addition. The materials are stated to have less dark reaction than prior art materials. In a modification a solution with a pH greater than 8À2 is prepared by adding non-volatile base to a solution of a lightsensitive chromate of a volatile base.
