titleOfInvention PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING DERIVATIVES OF PHENOTHIA-CINA.
abstract The invention comprises compounds of the general Formula II in which R 1 represents a lower alkyl C 1-4 group, R 2 represents a lower aliphatic acyl C 1-4 group and Hal represents a chlorine, bromine or iodine atom are prepared by treating the appropriate sulphide III in an inert organic solvent with a 30% hydrogen peroxide solution at an elevated temperature. The compound of Formula III when R 2 represents -CHO is novel and is prepared by reacting the corresponding amine with anhydrous formic acid at an elevated temperature. Phenothiazines of the general Formula I may be prepared by heating the compounds of Formula II in an inert solvent in the presence of an alkaline condensing agent e.g. Na 2 CO 3 .
