titleOfInvention | PROCEDURE TO PROTECT ORGANIC MATERIALS FROM ULTRAVIOLET IRRADIATION. |
abstract | Fatty oils are stabilized against degradation by ultra-violet light with an oxalic acid diamide derivative Ar-NH-CO-CO-B where Ar is a 6- or 10-membered aromatic carbocyclic residue, optionally substituted by aliphatic, araliphatic, cycloaliphatic, phenyl or 5- or 6- member heterocyclic residues or by hydroxyl, phenoxy, nitro, nitrile, carboxyl, carbonamide, sulphonamide, sulphonic acid, aromatic acyloxy or amino groups or halogen atoms and B represents an aliphatic, araliphatic or alicyclic residue containing at least one nitrogen atom, or an NH 2 , hydroxylamino or optionally substituted hydrazino group, is attached to the CO group through a nitrogen atom and contains at most 20 carbon atoms, and is such that the absorption maximum of the compound is not more than 370 mÁ. Many suitable stabilizers are specified and in Example (6) olive oil is stabilized with compounds in which Ar is p-methoxyphenyl and B is -NHC 4 H 9 Ar is p-methoxyphenyl and B is -NH(CH 2 ) 3 N(CH 3 ) 2 Ar is p-octoxyphenyl and B is -NHC 18 H 37 Ar is naphthyl and B is -NH(CH 2 ) 3 N(CH 3 ) 2 Ar is 2-methoxy-5-methylphenyl and B is -NHC 8 H 17 and Ar is p-ethoxyphenyl and B is -NHC 4 H 9 . |
