titleOfInvention A PROCEDURE FOR PREPARING A COMPOSITION AGAINST TRANSPIRATION.
abstract An anti-perspirant composition comprises a mixture of water-soluble rare earth metal salts containing 40% to 50% by weight lanthanum, 30% to 40% neodymium 5% to 15% praseodymium and less than 2% cerium plus thorium in terms of the total rare earth metal content thereof, a carrier therefor and a perfume. The rare earth metal salts are prefer- . ably didymium sulphamate, sulphate, chloride, acetate or methionatin. Other rare earth metal salts may be present to the total extent of less than 10% e.g. samarium, gadolinium and yttrium salts. The compositions may be in the form of salves, creams, lotions, gels, sprays, emulsions, suspensions, solutions or aerosols containing conventional excipients. The compositions may also contain thickening agents (e.g. cellulose ethers, gums and resins), other anti perspirant active compounds (e.g. aluminium, zirconium and titanium astringent compounds), surfactants, cationic wetting agents, fabric corrosion inhibitors, preservatives, antibacterials (e.g. neomycin, neomycin sulphate), u.v. absorbers (e.g. 2-hydroxy benzophenones and 2-hydroxy phenyl benztriazole compounds), fungicides, opacifying agents (e.g. stearic acid and silicones), emollients (e.g. glycerine, allantoin and lanolin derivatives), cosolvents (e.g. ethyl alcohol), propellants (e.g. hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and preferably fluorocarbons) and colouring agents. The compositions may be prepared by a method comprising treating a slurry of didymium carbonate with sulphamic acid to produce didymium sulphamate.
