titleOfInvention | AN ANODE FASTENING DEVICE FOR AN ELECTROLYTIC CELL. |
abstract | <PICT:1119817/C6-C7/1> An anode anchorage means for an electrolytic cell comprises a cell bottom 10 having a preformed irregularity, and a conductive medium 20, e.g. of lead, copper or alloys thereof, to which are attached a plurality of anode blades 18 e.g. of graphite and at least one bus-bar 12, having one surface shaped to conform to the cell bottom and the irregularity therein, wherein the irregularity, which may be one or more projections (16, Figs. 1 & 3) and/or recesses, is positioned transversely to the direction of the bus-bar, which is preferably embedded in a projection 14 on the conductive medium. The anode blades may be positioned parallel or transverse to the direction of the bus-bar. The irregularity may be a tongue and groove projection and recess passing through the centre of gravity of the conductive medium circular, triangular and rectangular irregularities may be used. The cell bottom may be of concrete or stainless or nickel steel optionally coated with after chlorinated polyvinylchloride, polyvinylidene chloride, P.T.F.E. or ceramics. The invention is applicable to alkali metal chlorate or HCl cells, or chlor-alkali cells, for electrolysing NaCl, KCl, LiCl, RbCl or CsCl, which may employ asbestos or synthetic fibre diaphragms between the anode blades and cathode figures (not shown). |
