abstract | 1 : 3 - Benzoxazine - 2,4 - dione is prepared by reacting salicylamide with a lower alkyl ester of chloroformic acid in the presence of an inorganic base, in an aqueous media, at a temperature in the range of from 20-70 DEG C. and thereafter maintaining the reaction mixture so formed in the same temperature range until the formation of the solid product is substantially concluded, the chloroformic ester being added to the salicylamide at a rate slow enough and with sufficient stirring to ensure the formation of the said solid product. |
