abstract The invention comprises ferrous glucoheptonate and the preparation thereof by reacting pure gluco-heptonic acid in aqueous solution with arsenic-free iron powder, preferably in stoichiometric amounts.ALSO:The invention comprises a pharmaceutical composition, useful in the treatment of iron-deficient anaemia, containing ferrous glucoheptonate together with a physiologically acceptable carrier. The composition is suitable for oral and rectal administration, and may also be in the form of a sterile solution prepared for injection. The composition may also contain ascorbic acid, and colouring and/or flavouring agents.
