abstract | A drug delivery device (100) comprising: a housing (110) having an opening (110ο), the housing (110) configured to contain a drug storage container (122) including a drug delivery member dose so that at least one insertion portion of the dose delivery member is configured to extend through the opening (110ο) in the housing (110); a needle guard (152) disposed adjacent to the opening (110ο) and movable with respect to the housing (110) between an extended position and a retracted position, where the needle guard (152) retracts into the housing, the needle guard (152) being dose delivery member insertion portion surrounded by needle guard 152 in the extended position and the dose delivery member insertion portion being at least partially exposed when needle guard 152 is in the extended position. retracted; an interference arrangement (154) for providing a selected threshold of resistance to movement of the needle shield (152) from the extended position to the retracted position during insertion of the dose delivery member into body tissue at an injection site, the interference arrangement (154) having a first member (1541) associated with an interior surface (112) of the housing (110), and a second member (1542) extending from the needle shield (152), engaging the first and second members relative to each other to retain the needle guard (152) in the extended position, moving one of the first and second members if the selected threshold of resistance is exceeded to allow the members to slide past the other and to allow the guard needle (152) moves to the retracted position when the device is pressed toward the injection site during insertion of the dose delivery member; wherein the first member (1541) comprises a detent member (254c) and the second member (1542) comprises a detent follower member (254f), and the detent follower member (254f) including a flexible arm (256, 356) applying a resistive biasing force to detent follower member 254f against detent member 254c during movement of the needle guard from the extended position to the retracted position, characterized in that the detent member (254c) includes a circumferential head (255). |
