abstract In vitro method for diagnosing a brain tumor in a human test subject comprising: a. To determine the concentration of at least two metabolites comprised in a biofluid sample obtained from the human test subject, wherein said at least two metabolites are selected from the group consisting of: trimethylamine (TMA), trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) , taurine, creatine, phosphocreatine, uric acid and creatinine; b. Compare the concentration of the at least two metabolites in the biofluid sample with the concentration of the same at least two metabolites in at least one reference standard obtained from a non-tumor-bearing subject; and c. Identify a concentration difference for each of the at least two metabolites in the biofluid sample relative to the reference standard, in which one or more of TMA, TMAO, taurine, creatine, and phosphocreatine is present at a higher concentration in the biofluid sample, when compared to the reference standard, and/or wherein one or more of uric acid and creatine is present in a lower concentration in the biofluid sample, when compared to the reference standard; wherein the concentration difference of each of the at least two metabolites in the biofluid sample correlates with the presence of a brain tumor.
