abstract A process for producing a scandium-containing concentrate from a red mud, said process comprising filtering the red mud from a liquid phase, repulping a red mud cake with a recirculated sodium bicarbonate solution, gasifying the solution with carbon dioxide carbon to pH <= 9, leach red mud with sodium bicarbonate solution, filter and wash red mud cake with water on filter, sorb scandium from filtrate on phosphate ion exchanger , after which the recirculated solution is recycled to repulping red mud cake, desorbing scandium from phosphate ion exchanger with strong soda solution at high temperature to obtain scandium-rich pickling, and at least one step of pickling hydrolysis to obtain a concentrate containing scandium in the second stage, characterized in that the leaching by carbonization of the red mud is carried out at the in a single step by using a solution with a mixture of sodium carbonate and bicarbonate, scandium is sorbed from the scandium-containing solution obtained in a phosphorus-containing ion exchanger, scandium is desorbed from an organic phase of the ion exchanger by using a sodium carbonate solution to obtain commercially regenerated scandium from which a scandium concentrate is precipitated, where the content of Sc2O3 therein is at least 15% by weight (in terms of dry matter), the TiO2 content is not more than 3% by weight (in terms of dry matter), the ZrO2 content is not more than 15% by weight (in terms of dry matter), and where scandium in the concentrate is in the form of a mixture of hydroxide Sc(OH)3 with basic salt ScOHCO3×4H2O.
