abstract | A medicament dispensing device suitable for dispensing powdered medicaments from an open blister pocket of at least one blister pack, the dispensing device comprising (a) a housing; (b) an air inlet being provided in said housing; (c) enclosed by said housing, a dispensing mechanism for dispensing powdered medicament from an open blister pocket of at least one blister pack receivable thereby; and (d) associated with said dispensing mechanism and in communication with said air inlet, a manifold comprising (i) a body, (ii) said body defining a chimney having a chimney inlet and a chimney outlet for directing air flow from said stack inlet to said stack outlet; (iii) the body further defining a chamber having a chamber inlet and a chamber outlet, (iv) wherein the chimney outlet and said chamber inlet are adjacent to each other such that when said pocket open blister pocket of said blister pack is placed adjacent to it, said airflow will be directed from the chimney outlet to the chamber inlet through the open blister pocket to entrain said powdered medicine and allow it to be transported in the airflow from the chamber inlet to the outlet of said chamber outlet, characterized in that, during inhaled use of the dispensing device by a patient, the airflow is introduced into the manifold chimney only through the inlet of air provided in the housing, wherein the air inlet provides the sole point of entry for air to flow into the housing during inhaled use of the dispensing device by an patient, only a portion of the airflow drawn through the air inlet and into the manifold stack is directed through the stack outlet into the open blister pocket, and one or more bleed holes (480 ) between the stack and the plenum in such a way that a portion of the airflow (the bleed airflow) will be directed into the plenum through one or more bleeder holes to disruptively impact the portion of the airflow that transports the entrained powder medicine. |
