titleOfInvention Surgical staple applier
abstract A surgical instrument (10), comprising: a handle assembly (100), including: a housing (110); a trigger (122) pivotally coupled to the housing; and an actuation bar (130) slidably disposed within the housing, the trigger (122) is pivotable with respect to the housing through a full activation stroke from a first non-activated position of the trigger to an activated position of the trigger. trigger to translate the drive rod through the casing through a full drive distance ("D1") from a first drive rod non-driven position to a drive rod driven position, the drive rod being includes a magnetic distal end portion (132a); and an elongated assembly (200) configured to releasably engage the handle assembly (100), the elongated assembly including: a proximal hub (220); an elongated shaft (240) extending distally from the proximal hub; an end effector assembly (260) supported on a distal end portion of the elongated shaft; and an inner drive assembly (280) operatively coupled to the end effector assembly (260) such that translation of the inner drive assembly drives the end effector assembly, the inner drive assembly including a proximal end portion magnetic drive assembly (280a), characterized in that , upon mating the elongate assembly (200) with the handle assembly (100), the magnetic proximal end portion (280a) of the inner drive assembly attracts the magnetic distal end portion (132a) of the actuation bar (130) to pull the actuation bar to a second non-activated position of the actuation bar and pivot the trigger (122) to a second non-activated position of the trigger so that the trigger can pivot with respect to the housing through a reduced activation stroke ("D2") from the second non-activated trigger position to the activated trigger position to translate the actuation bar through the housing through a reduced actuation distance from the second non-actuated position of the actuation bar to the actuated position of the actuation bar.
