titleOfInvention Controlled growth of microorganism
abstract A first microbial cell comprising a nucleic acid encoding a secreted bacteriocin that controls the growth of a second microbial cell and a nucleic acid encoding an immunity modulator conferring resistance to said secreted bacteriocin, wherein said first microbial cell has been engineered by genetic engineering to allow the expression or activity of said immune modulator that confers resistance to said bacteriocin to decrease, wherein the secreted bacteriocin is produced by the translational machinery of the first microbial cell, and wherein when the first microbial cell is not is desired, the expression or activity of the first microbial cell of the immune modulator is reduced, and the first microbial cell and clones thereof secrete the bacteriocin, thereby selectively discarding the first microbial cell, wherein optionally said second microbial cell is of the same species or strain as the parent mere microbial cell, or is of a different strain, species, or genus than said first microbial cell, and wherein optionally said bacteriocin comprises a naturally occurring bacteriocin or a synthetic bacteriocin.
