Method for producing digestible keratinous material, preferably from feathers, hair, hooves or nails, comprising the steps of hydrolyzing the keratinous material in the presence of water, in a hydrolyzer with heat and at a pressure between about 2 bar and about 15 bar, preferably between about 2 bar and about 10 bar, and drying the resulting hydrolyzed keratinous material comprising at least partially insoluble material in a dryer at a combination of temperature/time/pressure, which limits the drop in pepsin digestibility e/o ileal by less than 10%, and/or such that ileal e/o pepsin digestibility remains greater than 85%, or which limits the drop in ileal e/o pepsin digestibility to less than 10%, wherein the pepsin and ileal digestibility remains greater than 75% and 85%, respectively. |
