A catheter assembly, comprising: a catheter adapter (30) having a proximal end, a distal end, and a fluid path (38) extending therebetween; a catheter (40) having a distal end and a proximal end, the proximal end of the catheter (40) being coupled to the distal end of the catheter adapter (30), the catheter (40) having a lumen (44) in communication with fluid with the fluid path (30); a partition (20); and a needle (50) having a base, a tip and a body, characterized in that the septum (20) is disposed within the fluid path (38) thereby dividing the fluid path (38) into a chamber a front (32) and a rear chamber (34), the partition (20) having a slit (26); and the needle body (50) therebetween extends an amount of an antimicrobial lubricant applied to at least a portion of an outer surface of the needle body distal to a distal end of the septum (20) when the needle (50) extends beyond the distal end of the catheter (40), where the amount of antimicrobial lubricant spreads from the catheter (40) and the catheter adapter (30) when the needle (50) extends beyond the distal end of the catheter (40). ), wherein as the needle (50) is withdrawn proximally through the slit (26) of the septum (20), the septum (20) removes the antimicrobial lubricant from the needle (50) thereby depositing the antimicrobial lubricant on a distal side of the septum (20). |
