Polymer for forming a hydrogel for use in bone repair or restoration, the polymer comprising: a first monomer selected from polyethylene glycol (PEG), oligo(ethylene glycol) (OEG), oligo(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ether methacrylate (OEGMA), oxide of polyethylene (PEO), polyethylene oxide-co-propylene oxide (PPO), co-polyethylene oxide block or random copolymers thereof to bind water; a second monomer selected from hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), a copolymer of hydroxyethyl methacrylate poly(lactic acid) (HEMA-PLA), poly(lactic acid), poly(caprolactone), poly(glycolide), poly(glycolide- co-lactide) or poly(glycolide-cocaprolactone) to confer mechanical properties to said hydrogel; and a third monomer selected from N-hydroxysulfosuccinimide (SNHS), N-hydroxyethoxylated succinimido (ENHS), and N-acryloxysuccinimide (NAS) for binding to a natural or synthetic peptide or protein (NSPP). |
