titleOfInvention Security element, security provision, method for its production and authentication method using the same
abstract A security element, comprising a first and a second pattern formed in or on a substrate, the first pattern (105; 205) being formed by discrete elements (105a-105g; 205a-205c) of a first material, which are distributed on a first region (101) of the substrate (100; 200), the second pattern (106; 206) is formed by discrete elements (106a-106i; 206a-206c) of a second material, which are distributed over a second region ( 102) of the substrate (100; 200), said second material is different from said first material, said first and second regions of the substrate overlap, discrete elements of at least one of the first and second patterns are randomly distributed, a part of the discrete elements of the first pattern (105; 205) overlaps with a part of the discrete elements of said second pattern (106; 206), the security element is defined by the first pattern (105; 205), the second pattern (106; 206) and a third pattern (107; 207) formed by the superposition of some or all of the discrete elements of said first and second pattern, and the first material (INK1) comprises a first dye or fluorescent pigment (DYE1), which by means of excitation by electromagnetic radiation falls within a range of wavelength excitation wavelength λ1a of the first fluorescent dye or pigment (DYE1), is capable of emitting electromagnetic radiation in at least a first emission wavelength range λ1e, where the second material (INK2) comprises a second fluorescent dye or pigment (DYE2), which by excitation by electromagnetic radiation falls within an excitation wavelength range λ2a of the second fluorescent dye or pigment (DYE2), is capable of emitting electromagnetic radiation in at least a second wavelength range of λ2e emission, and wherein said first λ1e emission wavelength range of the first fluorescent dye or pigment (DYE1), overlaps with the wavelength range excitation wavelength λ2a of the second fluorescent dye or pigment (DYE2), such that after irradiation with electromagnetic radiation within the range of excitation wavelength λ1a of the first fluorescent dye or pigment (DYE1), the second fluorescent dye or pigment (DYE2) is excited in the area of superposition of the discrete elements, to emit electromagnetic radiation in the emission wavelength range λ2e, where said first and second patterns are formed in such a way that: said part of the discrete elements of the second pattern (106; 206), which overlap with said part of the first pattern discrete elements (105; 205), are formed on said part of the first pattern discrete elements (105; 205), or said part of the first pattern discrete elements (105; 205), which overlap said portion of the second pattern discrete elements (106; 206), are formed on said portion of the second pattern discrete elements (106; 206) provided that the first material is substantially translucent or transparent to electromagnetic radiation in the second emission wavelength range λ2e.
