abstract | A liquid crystal display device, which is in a transparent state when no voltage is applied and in a disperse state when a voltage is applied, and comprising a liquid crystal layer formed by arranging a liquid crystal composition containing a polymerizable compound which is subjected to an ultraviolet ray polymerization reaction, between a pair of substrates provided with an electrode, and irradiating the liquid crystal composition with ultraviolet rays and curing it in such a state that the liquid crystal composition exhibits partially or fully liquid crystallinity, and at least one of the substrates is provided with a liquid crystal alignment film for vertically aligning a liquid crystal, wherein the liquid crystal alignment film is a liquid crystal alignment film obtained from of a liquid crystal alignment agent containing a solvent and a polymer that t It has a side chain structure (first side chain structure) represented by the following formula [1-1] or [1-2] and a side chain structure (second side chain structure) represented by the following formula [2] : **(See formula)** where X1 and X3 are each independently at least one linking group selected from the group consisting of a single bond, -(CH2)a- (where a is an integer from 1 to 15), -O-, -CH2O-, -COO- and -OCO-;
