A compound represented by formula (I): (I) Y-[-Z-(X1-S(O)(X2)F)m]n in which: Y is a biologically active organic central group comprising one or more substituted or unsubstituted moieties selected from an aryl group, a heteroaryl aryl group, a non-aromatic hydrocarbyl group, a non-aromatic heterocyclic group, to which each Z is independently covalently bonded; n is 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5; each Z is independently O, NR or N; when Z is O, m is 1, X1 is a covalent bond and Z is covalently bonded to an aryl or heteroaryl moiety of Y; when Z is NR, m is 1, X1 is a covalent bond or CH2CH2, and Z is covalently bonded to a non-aromatic hydrocarbyl, non-aromatic heterocyclic, aryl, or heteroaryl moiety of Y; when Z is N, (a) m is 2, X1 is CH2CH2 and Z is covalently bonded to a non-aromatic hydrocarbyl, non-aromatic heterocyclic, aryl, or heteroaryl moiety of Y; or (b) m is 1, X1 is a covalent bond or CH2CH2, and Z is a nitrogen on an aromatic or nonaromatic heterocyclic ring portion of the central group Y; each X2 is independently O or NR; and each R independently comprises H or a substituted or unsubstituted group selected from an aryl group, a heteroaryl aryl group, a non-aromatic hydrocarbyl group, and a non-aromatic heterocyclic group. |
