abstract |
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a first recombinant vaccinia virus and (i) a recombinant vector; or (ii) a further recombinant vaccinia virus, for use in a method of treating and/or preventing hepatitis C, wherein the method comprises (a) administering the first recombinant vaccinia virus for primary immunization and then the recombinant vector or additional recombinant vaccinia virus for booster immunization; or (b) administering the recombinant vector for a primary immunization and then the first recombinant vaccinia virus for a booster immunization; wherein the first recombinant vaccinia virus comprises an expression promoter, and all or part of the cDNA of the hepatitis C virus genome; wherein the recombinant vector or additional recombinant vaccinia virus comprises an expression promoter, and all or part of the cDNA of the hepatitis C virus genome provided that it has a nucleotide sequence that differs from that of all or part of the cDNA of the hepatitis C virus genome contained in the first recombinant vaccinia virus; and wherein (A) the first recombinant vaccinia virus cDNA comprises a nucleotide sequence encoding a hepatitis C virus structural protein and the recombinant vector cDNA or additional recombinant vaccinia virus cDNA comprises a nucleotide sequence encoding a nonstructural protein from hepatitis C virus; or (B) the first recombinant vaccinia virus cDNA comprises a nucleotide sequence encoding a nonstructural protein of hepatitis C virus and the recombinant vector cDNA or additional recombinant vaccinia virus cDNA comprises a nucleotide sequence encoding a structural protein of the hepatitis C virus. |
