abstract | A process for shortening the hydrocarbon chain of a compound of formula (I) comprising contacting the compound of formula (I) with a peroxide and an enzyme having peroxygenase activity and comprising an amino acid sequence with at least 80% of identity with SEQ ID NO: 1, **(See formula)** wherein R1 is selected from -H and -OH, R2 is selected from: optionally substituted C1-C17 alkyl, optionally substituted C2-C17 alkenyl, alkynyl C2-C17 optionally substituted, -X-COOH, **(See formula)** and **(See formula)** X is selected from C2-C16 optionally substituted alkyl, C2-C16 optionally substituted alkenyl, C2-C16 alkynyl optionally substituted wherein the peroxide is hydrogen peroxide or an organic hydroperoxide selected from the list comprising tert-butyl hydroperoxide, peracetic acid, m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid and ethyl hydroperoxide and wherein the enzymatic reaction that takes place leads to an acid at least one shorter carbon according to the following scheme: **(See formula)** . |
