abstract A method for diagnosing an Aspergillus infection in a patient, comprising the step of detecting beta-1,5-galactofuranose from the mycelium of a pathogenic strain of Aspergillus in a sample, in which the sample is contacted with a primer antibody that specifically binds to said antigen and in which any antigen bound to said first antibody is detected by an immunoassay selected from the group consisting of an ELISA, in which the first antibody is coated on a microplate, and an assay based on microbeads, in which the first antibody is coated on a bead in which the immunoassay is not a membrane-based immunoassay selected from the group consisting of a lateral flow, western blot, dot blot, and line blot device, in the that the sample is a serum sample characterized in that the sample is subjected to a denaturation step before being brought into contact with the antibody.
