abstract | A precision variable rate infusion system (100) for delivering a liquid from a reservoir (104) having an initial potential outflow rate to a patient (106), the liquid having a maximum dosing rate, comprising: at less a first flexible flow tube (108) having a known length and internal diameter defining a predefined flow rate that does not exceed the maximum dosing flow rate for the liquid, the length and known internal diameter being defined to provide a laminar flow of the liquid through the first flexible flow tube (108); and an adjustable flow controller (110) having an inlet (200) and an outlet (202), at least one internal fluid path (210) between these, and a fluid path modifier (204) structured and arranged to modify the internal fluid path (210)) from the inlet (200) to the outlet (202) of a closed path to a maximum flow path with a plurality of different flow paths between these, providing from a set flow rate maximum to zero flow, where the adjustable flow controller (110) is connected to the first flexible flow tube (108) and where the adjustable flow controller (110) is configured to receive the liquid from the reservoir (104), In use; wherein, when the first flexible flow tube (108) and the adjustable flow controller (110) are connected, the preset flow rate and the maximum set flow rate are cooperatively combined to be equal to or less than the maximum dosing flow rate for the reservoir liquid (104); where the combination of the predefined flow rate and the maximum setting flow rate determine a maximum flow rate of the liquid from the reservoir (104) to a patient (106), which is equal to or less than the maximum dosing flow rate, and where the flow controller Adjustable flow rate (110) allows precision flow control from an outlet flow rate to approximately the maximum flow rate allowed by the combination of the preset flow rate and the maximum setting flow rate. |
