abstract | An apparatus for the oxidation of a C8-C12 alkylbenzene reagent to a C8-C12 alkylbenzene hydroperoxide product, the apparatus comprising: a flow reactor comprising a reagent inlet, an oxidized product outlet, wherein the reactor of flow is configured to provide a liquid flow from the reagent inlet to the oxidized product outlet, a gas inlet configured to introduce an oxygen containing gas into the flow reactor, an inlet sparger configured to flow gas bubbles that comprise the oxygen-containing gas within the liquid flow, preferably where the gas inlet is positioned to provide a flow of the gas bubbles to the flow reactor, more preferably where the gas bubbles are introduced into the flow reactor in a direction through a liquid flow direction and wherein gas bubbles flow through the flow reactor in a direction coaxial with the f liquid flow and a reaction channel, where, in use, the flow of liquid from the reagent inlet to the oxidized product outlet is through a reaction channel, preferably where the reaction channel has a diameter of more than or equal to 6mm, more preferably, wherein the diameter of the reaction channel is less than or equal to 100mm, even more preferably, where the diameter of the reaction channel is 6mm to 50mm and wherein The inlet sparger has a single opening configured to flow gas bubbles one at a time, in series, into the reaction channel, preferably wherein the inlet sparger comprises an arrangement of sparger channels, wherein each sparger channel has a diameter of 0.01 to 0.9mm, preferably wherein each sparger channel is 2mm to 100mm in length, more preferably, wherein the length of each sparge channel is 5mm to 25mm. |
