abstract An apparatus (1, 101) for producing solid microspheres, wherein the apparatus comprises at least one liquid drop generator that can be used to generate drops comprising a solute dissolved in a solvent, and at least one channel (2, 102 ah) of flow to carry a second liquid, at least one liquid drop generator and at least one flow channel that are spaced from each other so that, in use, a few drops of liquid are passed through a gas into the second liquid provided in said flow channel, where the solvent is soluble in the second liquid to cause the solvent to leave the drops, thereby forming solid microspheres, the apparatus comprising means for generating a flow of the second liquid in said at least one flow channel, characterized in that the apparatus comprises one or both of a heater that is used to heat the second liquid and a cooler that is used to cool the second liquid, and where each generator Liquid droplet generator comprises a piezoelectric component (3.13 a-h) which can be used to generate droplets.
